Editing is a super powerful tool you can use to perfect your hashtag groups after you've generated them. The way editing works it simple—you can take any group of hashtags throughout the app and either add a few of your own hashtags or delete ones that aren’t related to your post.
Let’s generate a group of hashtags about #newyorkcityphotography.
- Go to the ‘Generate’ tab (middle one)
- Enter #newyorkcityphotography in the search bar, then tap 'done' on your keyboard
- Tap ‘Generate Hashtags’
You should see something that looks like this:
Now, let’s edit the top group of hashtags. Tap the ‘Edit’ button on the cell. You should see something that looks like this:
This group of hashtags is good, but not 100% perfect. There are some random hashtags like #emquedoacasa and #ig and #instagram that aren’t super relevant to our specific post.
With Editing, you can tap those hashtags and delete them. You’ll notice a delete button appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap that.
Ok, so we’ve deleted a few irrelevant hashtags, now. We have a total of 27 hashtags in the group. Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags, so let's tap the plus button in the top right.
Using this interface, we can search for more hashtags and add them to our existing group. Search #newyorkcityphotography. Then, select a few hashtags that you think are related to your post and tap ‘Add x Hashtags’ at the bottom.
My hashtag group now has 30 hashtags. I can now copy them and my group will be just a touch better than it was before, because I removed the irrelevant hashtags and replaced them with related hashtags.
As you can see, Editing is a super powerful tool. Whenever you see an Edit button on a group of hashtags, you can edit that group. This is possible in the Trending, Search, Generate, and Profile tabs.
